The Islamic Republic of Pakistan is located in the northwestern part of the South Asian subcontinent near the Arabian Sea and the Gulf of Oman. It is bordered by Afghanistan, Iran, India, and China. Pakistan became a state as a result of the partition of British India on August 14, 1947. The country has the sixth largest population in the world and the second largest Muslim population in the world after Indonesia.
